Language
The child's ability to absorb language is truly remarkable. Children absorb language from a very early age.
At D2 Montessori we begin by teaching the child pre-language development exercises. They are then introduced to the three lettered phonetic words, then on to word lists, sight words, phrase strips, phrase building then finally booklets.
Many of the Montessori materials are an indirect preparation for writing, which aids the process of writing. The materials prepare all the separate techniques required for writing, and so when the desire arrives the technical skill is already there.
When a child comes to the Montessori classroom and "works' with the equipment he 'explodes' into writing at about four years of age.
At D2 Montessori we believe in the importance of language skills and through working with our language materials which make it possible to communicate ideas, allows the child to understand his or her society and culture. It helps in maintaining social relationships. It helps the child to get their point across.
"Language begins deep in the darkness of the subconscious, is developed and fixed there. Then only is it seen openly”.
